Fremantle has renewed its first-look deal with Pablo and Juan de Dios Larraín’s Fabula to continue developing a slate of original dramas and films.

Under the original partnership, forged in 2019, Fabula produced La Jauría and Señorita 89, as well as the upcoming medical drama Midnight Family for Apple TV+. The team will continue to work closely with Fremantle’s Christian Vesper and Seb Shorr to produce more projects.

Fabula and Fremantle recently wrapped production on Sebastián Lelio’s film musical The Wave (La Ola), telling the story of the mass protest university rallies that took place during the so-called Feminist May in 2018. Later this year, the two companies will launch Pablo de Dios Larraín’s Maria, starring Angelina Jolie as legendary and controversial singer Maria Callas.

“Pablo and Juan encapsulate the bold and inventive filmmaking we proudly support at Fremantle, and I am delighted that that our renewed deal means working even closer with them,” said Vesper, CEO of global drama at Fremantle. “Fabula is such an exciting company creating original, passionate film and drama titles, and we are thrilled to have them as our valued partners.”

Pablo and Juan commented, “It has been years of great collaboration and mutual growth on many levels. Fremantle has given us many tools to understand the industry and how to move forward. They have been wonderful travel companions with fantastic taste. We are more than happy to go deeper into our partnership with them in the upcoming years.”
