Edinburgh TV Festival to Host A Very English Scandal Masterclass

The team from the BBC One drama A Very English Scandal, including actor Hugh Grant and writer Russell T Davies, are taking part in an exclusive masterclass at the Edinburgh TV Festival.

Adapted from John Preston’s novel, A Very English Scandal is the true story of Jeremy Thorpe, the former Liberal Party leader who stood trial for conspiracy to murder his secret ex-lover Norman Scott. The masterclass will delve into the adaptation, giving a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process and challenges involved in bringing this sensitive true-life story to the screen. Grant will also talk about his first appearance in a TV program in more than a decade and discuss what drew him to this role.

Also taking part in the masterclass are director Stephen Frears, producer Dan Winch and executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins. It will be chaired by writer, presenter and broadcaster Sue Perkins.

Phil Edgar-Jones, the festival’s advisory chair, said: “A Very English Scandal had millions gripped with its deft re-telling of one of the craziest political scandals to grace British politics. Brilliantly written by Russell T Davies, with delicately drawn characterizations from Ben Whishaw and Hugh Grant, the series has received incredible praise from both the U.K. and U.S. media. If you haven’t bought your Edinburgh ticket already, this session is worth the admission price alone.”
