Boat Rocker to Co-Produce Basquiat Limited Series

Boat Rocker is collaborating with Shamier Anderson and Stephan James’ Bay Mills Studios on a limited scripted series about the life of artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.

The limited series will be set in 1980s New York City, following the rise of Basquiat from an obscure graffiti artist to a Neo-expressionist painter of rockstar status. James (If Beale Street Could Talk, Homecoming) will step into the role of Basquiat.

“I am thrilled to partner with Boat Rocker to bring to life the story of Jean-Michel Basquiat,” said James. “Jean-Michel is an artist I have long revered and someone who has greatly influenced my work over the years. To embody such a revolutionary, whose influence in the modern era of pop culture is simply immeasurable, will simply be one of the greatest honors of my career.”

James and Anderson have a first-look deal with Boat Rocker through their Bay Mills Studios banner.
