Filming has started in Sydney for the upcoming BINGE series Mix Tape, which is being produced by Subotica and Aquarius Films, in association with Boat Rocker.

Starring Teresa Palmer (The Clearing, The Fall Guy) and Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe, Cloud Atlas), the series follows the love story of Daniel and Alison, moving between their teenage romance in Sheffield, England, in 1989 to the modern day, when they live on opposite sides of the world and reconnect through a song from their shared past.

Ben Lawson (Bombshell, Designated Survivor), Julia Savage (The Clearing, Blaze), Jacqueline McKenzie (Force of Nature: The Dry 2, Savage River) and Chika Ikogwe (Heartbreak High, Land of the Bad) are also part of the cast.

The series is based on the novel of the same name by Jane Sanderson, originally published in 2020.

Mix Tape is being filmed across both Sydney and Ireland, with Lucy Gaffy directing. Major production investment comes from the Foxtel Group in association with Screen Australia and Fís Eireann/Screen Ireland. It is also financed with support from the Finnish Impact Film Fund and Screen NSW’s Made in NSW Fund. Boat Rocker will be overseeing global distribution.

Mix Tape is a compelling series, rich in emotion that will transport you back in time through the power of music,” said Alison Hurbert-Burns, commissioner at BINGE and executive producer of the series. “Aquarius Films and Subotica have secured outstanding cast led by Teresa and Jim, who, along with some of the finest creatives, will deliver a story we can’t wait for our audiences to see.”

Aquarius Films’ Angie Fielder and Polly Staniford and Subotica’s Aoife O’Sullivan and Tristan Orpen Lynch added, “From the moment we read Jane Sanderson’s novel, we all knew that we just had to adapt this gorgeous grown-up love story for the screen. Mix Tape asks the age-old question, ‘What if you had a second chance with your first love?’ and walks us back down memory lane to revisit the innocence of teenage passions—against a banging soundtrack! We’re thrilled to be partnering with BINGE/Foxtel to bring this project to audiences and couldn’t be more excited about the fantastic cast we’ve assembled.”
