BBC, ZDF Commission Adaptation of Enid Blyton’s The Famous Five

The U.K.’s BBC and Germany’s ZDF have commissioned The Famous Five, an adaptation of Enid Blyton’s The Famous Five series, from Moonage Pictures (The Pursuit of Love) and Nicolas Winding Refn.

The three-part series, made up of 90-minute episodes, follows five young explorers as they go on treacherous, action-packed adventures featuring mysteries, danger and secrets. The show will draw on the 21 stories that make up Blyton’s book series.

The Famous Five will be directed by Tim Kirkby and produced by Moonage Pictures and byNWR Originals. BBC Studios, which has a minority stake in Moonage, will oversee international distribution. It has already brokered co-production and presales deals with France’s TF1 and Germany’s ZDF. Episode one is written by Matthew Read, episode two is written by Priya K Dosanjh and episode three is being written by Matthew Bouch and Matthew Read.

Winding Refn, creator and executive producer, said: “All my life I’ve fought vigorously to remain a child with a lust for adventure.
