The thriller Hostages, an Armoza Formats title, has been ordered for a second season by the Indian content and IP creation studio Applause Entertainment.

The first season of the Indian adaptation of Hostages began streaming on Hotstar Specials in May. Produced by Yetzira Ivrit, Hostages follows a renowned surgeon about to perform a routine operation on the President. Her family is taken hostage and she is ordered to sabotage the procedure and kill the President—or her family will die.

Sameer Nair, CEO of Applause Entertainment, said, “Hostages has proved to be a breakthrough series for us which not only received commercial acclaim but was also appreciated by the critics. The audiences in India have evolved over a period and they’re constantly appreciating premium drama series that digital has to offer. Hostages as a show had fine performances, an exceptional director with a gripping and crisp narrative and that’s what the audiences applauded. We had a fantastic first season of our association with Armoza and streaming partner, Hotstar, and are thrilled to begin work on the second season.”

Louise Melzack, sales director for the U.K., Ireland, Africa, the Nordics and Asia at Armoza Formats, added, “We are thrilled to be continuing our incredible partnership with Applause Entertainment and with the success that Hostages has found in India. This is the perfect example of how a great story maintains its appeal and travels internationally to work for all audiences.”
