Video Interview: Who Shot Otto Mueller?’s Birk Rohelend

Who Shot Otto Mueller?, Viaplay’s first original produced in Estonia, tells an Agatha Christie-like whodunit story that begins when a businessman and ex-Soviet wrestler is murdered on his 65th birthday. Every one of his family members is a prime suspect in his death, and each episode centers on a different person and their potential motive as they share their own perspectives of the night of Otto’s murder. Across eight episodes, long-buried secrets come to light and dark truths about the powerful man are unearthed before the final reveal.

The series is written by Birk Rohelend (The Pillow Club) and directed by René Vilbre (Class Reunion), with a cast made up of Estonian stars. It is now available for U.S. viewers to watch with English subtitles on Viaplay.

Rohelend speaks to TV Drama Weekly about her inspiration for the series, how the cast made the characters come to life and what it means to be the first Viaplay original produced in Estonia.
