Hugh Laurie’s three-part adaptation of the Agatha Christie murder mystery Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? has commenced production, with Will Poulter (The Revenant) and Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody) leading the cast.

In Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?, honest and amiable Bobby Jones (Poulter) becomes entangled in the mysterious question of the title, along with Frankie (Boynton), a clever and unflappable young woman with a taste for adventure. The series is commissioned by BritBox North America and produced by Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited.

Endeavor Content will handle international sales outside of the U.K., Ireland and the Americas.

Joining Poulter and Boynton on the series are Maeve Dermody (The Secret Garden), Conleth Hill (Game of Thrones), Daniel Ings (I Hate Suzie), Jonathan Jules (Small Axe), Miles Jupp (The Durrells), Amy Nuttall (Downton Abbey), Alistair Petrie (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Paul Whitehouse (The Personal History of David Copperfield), Morwenna Banks (Skins) and Joshua James (Black Mirror). In addition to directing, Hugh Laurie (House) will also play the role of Dr. James Nicholson.

Poulter said: “I’m deeply honored to have been given the opportunity to co-lead this project with Lucy and the chance to bring Agatha Christie’s thrilling story to life under Hugh’s direction.”

Boynton added: “I’m so thrilled to be working with Hugh and Will, and on this story from one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to get started.”
