TORONTO: marblemedia has teamed up with Omnifilm Entertainment to develop a remake of the 1990s scripted hit The Odyssey.

The Odyssey will be adapted by Canadian Screen Award winners Simon Racioppa and Richard Elliott (Fangbone, My Babysitter’s a Vampire). The adventure comedy series centers on a group of children who wake up in a mysterious forest, where they must learn how to take care of themselves and find their way home. The show, which will have an extensive digital presence, will feature an ensemble cast portraying characters from around the globe. International sales will be handled by marblemedia’s Distribution360.

“We’ve been passionately committed to finding IP that offers an immersive and imaginative world for young viewers,” said Matt Hornburg, co-CEO and executive producer for marblemedia. “Audiences of this age are underserved in serialized live action, particularly a series such as The Odyssey which balances fun, adventure and mystery. We hope to capture that same loyalty in today’s audience as the original series did.”

“We are very excited to be working with marblemedia to update and reboot our Odyssey franchise for a new generation of tween viewers,” added Omnifilm President Michael Chechik. “Simon and Richard have done a fantastic job reimagining the series while remaining true to the original inspiration.”
