OTTAWA: Gusto TV has set up a new prime-time programming slot, Discovering a New America, which will put the spotlight on healthy American food.

The new slot runs from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weeknights. It will host culinary programs that have themes such as the farm-to-table movement, sustainability and non-processed foods. The first show to be featured in this new slot is Good Food America, in which host Danny Boome takes viewers on a road trip across America to look at unique eateries serving healthy dishes.

“We’ve noticed an important shift in the eating culture in North America these past few years,” said Mark Prasuhn, the general manager and VP of Gusto TV. “More and more people are looking to eat healthy and local foods, and sales of processed food is declining sharply. But paradoxically, much of the culinary programming you see coming from the U.S. television networks portrays people trying to eat burgers the size of their car. We at Gusto TV believe that American food is so much more than that, and we are going to show viewers all that it has to offer.”
