AUCKLAND: The highly anticipated next chapter of The X-Files is headed to TV2 in New Zealand in early 2016, with TVNZ also picking up the local rights to air all new episodes of The Simpsons and Family Guy.

The newly signed pact between Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution and TVNZ also includes The X-Files Essential Collection, 20 remastered episodes selected by the show’s creator, Chris Carter. TV2 will also have all new episodes of The Simpsons and Family Guy in 2016, as well as earlier episodes from the libraries of both shows.

Andrew Shaw, TVNZ’s general manager of commissioning, production and acquisitions, commented: “They are the perfect fit for New Zealand’s biggest entertainment channel. The X-Files will be one of 2016’s most talked about shows and this deal means New Zealand viewers will see it on TV2 immediately following U.S. broadcast in January.

The X-Files was the definitive sci-fi drama of the ’90s—and this highly anticipated reboot sees David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson return as Mulder and Scully.”

Richard Samuels, the senior VP and managing director of FOX in Australia, added: “Both The Simpsons and Family Guy have had a significant presence in New Zealand for many years and Kiwi audiences have long welcomed the Simpson and Griffin families into their homes. We look forward to partnering with TVNZ as they prepare to introduce both groundbreaking shows to their schedule in 2016.”
