Report Projects Gains in AsiaPac OTT Revenues

LONDON: Over-the-top TV revenues across Asia Pacific are expected to rise to $10.2 billion in 2020, up from $2.7 billion last year, with ad-supported platforms leading the charge, according to Digital TV Research.

The report covers 14 markets across the Asia Pacific. It found that advertising revenues for OTT platforms will hit $4.6 billion in 2020, with China contributing $1.96 billion and Japan $1.2 billion. This is up from $1.7 billion this year. Subscription revenues are expected to rise from $1.3 billion this year to $3.5 billion in 2020. Japan will dominate the SVOD sector, generating revenues of $2 billion, some 55 percent of the total. Download-to-own revenues are projected to soar from $388 million this year to $1.3 billion in 2020. Rental/pay-per-view revenues will reach $804 million in 2020.

The Asia Pacific Online TV & Video Report also notes that the number of homes subscribing to SVOD packages will rise to 53.4 million in 2020, 6 percent of TV homes, up from 14.5 million at the end of this year.
