Regional Winners Announced for Asian Academy Creative Awards

The regional winners for 40 categories in the Asian Academy Creative Awards (AAAs) were announced in Cannes last night, with the selected national entries competing for the top honors that will be presented at the Grand Awards and Gala Final in Singapore on December 5 and 6.

“Just to make it to the finals an entrant has to be judged by their peers to be the very best in their own nation or territory and it was these works that were honored in Cannes,” said Michael McKay, president of the AAA.

Companies with multiple wins included Singapore’s Mediacorp with 14 of its own and partnerships with local producers for a further 15. TVB dominated the Hong Kong awards with 18, while Astro led the Malaysian field with 16. In the Philippines, GMA landed 16 and ABS-CBN nine. Nat Geo had 12 wins across the region. In Taiwan, PTS scored ten and Formosa TV seven. CNN had ten wins with seven for BBC News. In Thailand, BEC World scored nine. Japan’s NHK won six and Korean’s CJ ENM five. HBO Asia took 15 wins. Streaming platforms fared well with 24 wins for HOOQ, followed by China’s iQiyi with 12, Viu with ten, nine for Netflix, six for Catchplay, three for Youku and three for Amazon Prime.
