SINGAPORE: Asian entertainment channel GEM is due to roll out in Singapore on Singtel TV beginning July 29.

GEM is a joint venture channel between Sony Pictures Television Networks and Nippon Television Network Corporation. Singtel subscribers will have access to a free preview of GEM from July 26 to August 25. Viewers will be able to watch first-run and exclusive programs from Japan, as well as shows from other Asian territories, including China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Genres featured on GEM include action, comedy, period, family and romance, as well as drama and variety series.

In August, the lineup will include the current seasons of Nippon TV’s three prime-time dramas: Your Home is My Business!, Lost ID and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Other highlights include the Chinese series Because of Love and Lady & Liar, among others.

“GEM has seen great success in territories such as Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Cambodia,” said Ang Hui Keng, the senior VP and general manager of Sony Pictures Television Networks, Asia. “Building on the abiding interest in Japanese programs and lifestyle trends in this part of the world, we are delighted that GEM can strengthen the burgeoning return of the J-wave. We look forward to exciting viewers in Singapore with the latest shows and top Japanese artistes.”
