HONG KONG: This year’s CASBAA Convention will take place October 27 to 30 in Hong Kong under the theme “Beyond the Box,” exploring business models for new methods of content delivery across Asia.

“At its most basic level, ‘the box’ refers to the traditional television set that sits in the living room—or, more likely today, is mounted on a wall,” said Christopher Slaughter, the CEO of CASBAA. “Linear TV is still a major industry driver in the Asia Pacific, but we are seeing the proliferation of new technologies and new platforms that are providing consumers with innovative viewing options ‘beyond the box.’ In order to take advantage of these new opportunities, it is imperative to explore different business models and strategies that will encompass these alternate revenue streams. In short, it is time to start thinking outside of the box!”

Topics for discussion will include OTT, mobile broadcasting, 4K, sports rights and broadcast news, among others. Execs lined up to deliver keynote speeches include Jon Feltheimer, the CEO of Lionsgate; Victor Koo, the chairman and CEO of Youku Tudou; Tom Mockridge, the CEO of Virgin Media; Peter Limbourg, the director general of Duetsche Welle; David Haslingden, the CEO of NHNZ; and Jim Samples, the president of international at Scripps Networks Interactive.
