TV Globo Launches Portuguese Co-Pro

SÃO PAULO: TV Globo has unveiled its new co-production, Lacos de Sangue, which was done in partnership with Portugal’s SIC.

This marks the first time that SIC and TV Globo have signed a co-production agreement in the area of fiction. The partnership includes the involvement of the two companies in all the creation and production stages of the telenovela, including script, planning and definition of the artistic elements. The two-year deal is renewable and initially foresees the production of two telenovelas. The first is Lacos de Sangue and the second co-production has its premiere estimated for the first trimester of 2011 and will be based on a TV Globo title that has not yet been defined.

Directed by Pedro Lopes from SP Televisão, supervised by Aguinaldo Silva and general directed by Patricia Sequeira, Lacos de Sangue is slated to premiere September 13 on SIC. The story has its roots in Portuguese reality, with the drama and conflict of a contemporary society, but where love continues to have a central role in everyone’s lives.

Guilherme Bokel, the head of international production at Globo, commented, “We’re pleased with the successfull partnership with SIC and we’re happy to offer a high-quality production to the Portuguese viewers.”

Nuno Santos, SIC’s programming director, said, "I believe it will be the first of many others and I’m sure that our audience will notice the professionals commitment in front and behind the cameras."
