Turner to Pay $1 Million over Boston Marketing Debacle

ATLANTA/BOSTON, February 2: Turner Broadcasting System has
agreed to pay $1 million to cover the costs related to the security alert in
Boston sparked by a Cartoon Network marketing campaign on Wednesday, local
reports indicate.

Highways and bridges were shut down in Boston on Wednesday
after the discovery of “suspicious” battery-powered devices across the city
that ended up being part of a guerilla marketing campaign for the new season of
Aqua Teen Hunger Force on Cartoon
Network’s Adult Swim block.

According to the Boston Globe, Turner will pay $500,000 to the city of Boston and another $500,000
to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and two nearby cities. For
Boston authorities, however, this may not be enough: the city’s mayor, Thomas
Menino, said yesterday that he is considering legal action against the Time
Warner-owned company.
