Time Warner, YouTube in Clips Deal

NEW YORK/SAN BRUNO: Time Warner has agreed to make clips from a range of movies, TV shows and news reports available on YouTube, after launching a branded HBO channel on the video-sharing site last year.

The agreement will allow Warner Bros. Entertainment and Turner Broadcasting System to feature videos on YouTube using a Time Warner embeddable player. The offering will encompass clips from CNN news coverage, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim animated shows, TNT’s hit dramas and Warner Bros. Television productions like Gossip Girl and The Ellen DeGeneres Show, among others. HBO has been programming a branded channel on YouTube since early last year with promotional content from shows like True Blood, Hung and Entourage. The deal announced yesterday also enables Time Warner to create separate channels for its brands, and control and sell the ad time for its players on YouTube. Time Warner’s properties will share ad revenue with YouTube. YouTube also will feature Time Warner content in marketing and promotional campaigns, including display ads.

"Our agreement with YouTube helps us expand the amount of our promotional content, animation and news that we already make available online," said Jeff Bewkes, the company’s chairman and CEO. "Working with YouTube, we expect to improve our ability to monetize this short-form content through new and creative advertising initiatives."

"This partnership with Time Warner will provide our community with some of the most popular video content produced," added Chad Hurley, the co-founder and CEO of YouTube. "We hope to build on this deal and look forward to a long and productive relationship."
