The Wannabes Secures U.S. Slot

LOS ANGELES: The international hit kids’ series The Wannabes has been added to the Starz Kids & Family lineup in the U.S., to debut on September 5.

The series has already been broadcast in 92 territories across the world, with success in Australia, Germany and Latin America. The 26-episode series was created by Doreen Spicer-Dannelly (Proud Family, Jump In!) and is produced by Stern-LeMaire Productions and Savvy Productions.

The Wannabes features six high school students attending a classical arts academy who decide to try their hand at becoming pop stars. The stars of the series are from the teen pop group, Savvy, who are currently recording their first major label album. Their music is featured in each episode of the show.

“We are pleased to secure broadcast distribution in the United States via our distribution partner Showcase Entertainment and look forward to forming a strategic partnership with Starz as we have internationally with other networks,” said Ron Stern, co-executive producer at Stern-LeMaire Productions.

“We are very excited to be launching The Wannabes in the United States,” added Christine LeMaire, co-executive producer at Stern-LeMaire Productions. “Our company is dedicated to creating quality entertainment for families around the world. The Wannabes is the number one kids series on HBO in Latin America, and a top five show on ABC in Australia and we look to achieve the same success with Starz Kids & Family in the U.S.”
