LONDON/SYDNEY: The latest broadcaster to adapt the Endemol format The Money Drop is Channel Nine in Australia, which has ordered a 10-part run from Southern Star Entertainment.

The Money Drop has now been sold to 13 territories, including the U.S., U.K., Germany, Russia, Spain and Israel. The format first debuted on Channel 4 in the U.K. in May 2010. The high jeopardy game show watches as contestants are given their prize money at the start of the show, and must hold on to it by correctly placing their winnings on the trapdoor displaying the correct answer. Money placed on trapdoors with the incorrect answers will fall through the floor and be lost.

Tim Hincks, the CEO of Endemol UK, commented: “The Money Drop represents Endemol working at its best—a show created by the U.K. team only months ago is now on air in 13 countries around the world. After the winning the Ashes, it’s all too much."

Rory Callaghan, the CEO of Southern Star Entertainment, added: “The Million Dollar Drop will deliver heart-stopping jeopardy like no other game show out there. It’s going to have viewers here on the edge of their seats and Channel Nine is the perfect home for it.”
