MEXICO CITY: RCN and Televisa have renewed their strategic partnership and have committed to jointly developing original stories for the international market.

With the deal, RCN’s channels in Colombia continue to have exclusive access to Televisa’s original programs, while Televisa retains the rights to RCN fare for its free- and pay-TV networks in Mexico. In addition, Televisa’s scripts will be adapted by both companies in Mexico, Colombia and key territories in Europe and Asia. Also, Televisa and RCN will jointly develop original stories for worldwide rollout. The company previously partnered on Chinese and Brazilian versions of RCN’s Betty, la fea.

The relationship between the two companies was solidified this week during a meeting between Jose Baston, the president of television for Grupo Televisa, and Gabriel Reyes, the president of RCN Television, in Mexico City.

"RCN and Televisa are key players in the international television industry, and we are taking this opportunity to strengthen the bonds of a relationship that started several years ago and only promises to grow even stronger for many more," Baston said.

“Today’s competitive landscape requires us to develop a strong international strategy, and what a better ally than Televisa to capture new and larger markets," added Reyes. "RCN’s quality content, coupled with the extensive production experience of both companies, plus the distribution capabilities of Televisa, will only result in new and exciting programming options for the international audiences."
