Telemundo Retains Rights for Mexican National Team World Cup Qualifiers

MIAMI: Telemundo has signed a deal to remain as the exclusive U.S. home for the World Cup qualifying matches of the Mexican National Team through 2013.

Telemundo holds the exclusive U.S. broadcast and online rights for Mexico’s match-ups on the road to the World Cup. Announcer Andres Cantor, who recently renewed his commitment with Telemundo, will call the World Cup qualifying games live and on location. The coverage before, during and after the games—on air, online and via mobile—will also feature commentator Jessi Losada and analyst Sammy Sadovnik.

“Deportes Telemundo is the gold standard in sports coverage in Hispanic television,” said Don Browne, the president of Telemundo. “The world renowned expertise of our talent and the quality of our broadcasts, have the unique ability to capture the passion and essence of the sports that our audiences love to watch.”

“For over 10 years, Telemundo has been the exclusive home of the Mexican National Team’s World Cup away qualifying matches. This agreement keeps that tradition alive during Mexico’s journey on the road to qualification,” added Jorge Hidalgo, the senior executive VP of Telemundo Network Sports. “Only the Deportes Telemundo team, led by Andres Cantor, can define the passion and deliver the broadcast excellence that Hispanics demand.”
