Telefilm Canada Allocates New-Media Funding

MONTREAL: Telefilm Canada has selected 56 new-media projects to receive financial support through the product assistance component of the Canada New Media Fund (CNMF).

The CNMF is a program that provides funding for private sector entrepreneurs. The national program supports the creation and distribution of interactive cultural content products through product assistance, sectoral assistance and sectoral development.

In the Western region, independent websites and applications designed for mobile devices received the majority of support. Projects to receive support include Cosmos Interactive’s Babylonian Twins, Foulplay Entertainment’s Foulplay and Pug Pharm Productions’ SNOGET.

Console or handheld-console games and independent websites will be strongly supported in Ontario & Nunavut, while regional funding in Quebec focused on console or handheld-console games and independent websites as well. Projects from Ontario & Nunavut include DrinkBox Studios’ About a Blob and Bedlam Games’ Last Ones Standing. Projects receiving support from Quebec include Frima Studio’s Big Brain Wolf and Zombie Tycoon.

In the Atlantic region, console or handheld-console games and applications for mobile devices received the most support. Among the projects receiving support are Bight Interactive’s Puzzlings 2, Telos International’s Cognitive Fitness Game and Other Ocean Group Canada’s Puffins Island Adventures.
