Talpa Sets Up Portuguese Venture

HILVERSUM: In continuing its global expansion efforts, John de Mol’s Talpa Media has set up a co-owned joint venture with Portuguese TV producer CBV.

The venture will have the exclusive rights to sell, adapt and produce all Talpa formats for the Portuguese market. Talpa recently entered into similar deals with Spanish production outfit Boomerang TV Group for Spain, Warner Horizon Television for the U.S. market and Shine for France.

The JV will be headed by Piet-Hein Bakker, the CEO of CBV. Bakker commented: "This is a great step ahead for me and my CBV founding partners Pedro Curto and Vasco Vilarinho. CBV has the domestic production capacity and in-house creativity, Talpa is developing a great catalogue of up to date formats in many different genres attracting a vast audience. Together we expect to grow to a strong and successful position in the dynamic Portuguese market and the growing market of Angola."

Added de Mol: "Talpa is fast moving when it comes to establishing partnerships in important TV markets. Recently we concluded deals in the U.S., France and Spain. For our partners Talpa is attractive thanks to its flow of creative new developed product. Portugal is not the biggest market in the world, but it is open and competitive. That’s why I feel very pleased to start this partnership with CBV and the team of Piet-Hein Bakker who we know for so many years."
