Disney+ shed 2.4 million subscribers in the first quarter of fiscal 2023, while overall revenues at The Walt Disney Company rose by 8 percent to $23.5 billion.

Bundling and pricing discounts will be key to U.S. SVOD platforms as they look to limit churn amid intensifying competition, according to Ampere Analysis.

Revenues at The Walt Disney Company were up 9 percent to $20.15 billion in Q4, with the company ending the period with a total of 164.2 million Disney+ subscribers, a 39 percent year-on-year gain.

Revenues at The Walt Disney Company were up 23 percent in the second quarter to $19.2 billion, with the company reporting 7.9 million additional customers at Disney+ to reach 137.7 million.

Disney+ is set to expand to another 42 countries and 11 territories across Europe, the Middle East and Africa this summer, including South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Poland and Turkey.

The Walt Disney Company saw its Q1 revenues rise by 34 percent to $21.8 billion, helped in part by gains at its direct-to-consumer streaming division, with Disney+ ending the quarter with 129.8 million total subscribers, a 37 percent year-on-year gain.

New projections from Digital TV Research indicate that Netflix will remain the world's largest SVOD service until 2027, when it is expected to be overtaken by Disney+.

Disney+ ended Q4 with 118.1 million subscribers, adding 2.1 million customers in the period, with overall direct-to-consumer revenues up 38 percent.

Disney+ says it recorded more than 10 million sign-ups on its first day of being available in the U.S., Canada and the Netherlands.
