SINGAPORE: IPTV platform mioTV in Singapore is set to launch the Sundance Channel and the female-targeted lifestyle network WE tv.

The deal with SingTel’s pay-TV platform marks the first Asian carriage for the two Rainbow Media-operated channels, and the first launch for WE tv outside of the U.S. Sundance and WE tv will be available to mioTV customers beginning December 7 in SD and HD with Mandarin subtitles as linear and SVOD services.

 
“Rainbow is thrilled to be part of SingTel’s mioTV and we are confident SingTel’s subscribers will find the exclusive programming on Sundance Channel and WE tv to be engaging and entertaining,” said Ed Carroll, the COO of Rainbow Entertainment Services.
 
Sundance Channel Asia’s series lineup includes In the House with Guber and Bart, an entertainment news and interview show; Theatreland, an observational documentary set in London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket; and the original series Man Shops Globe and From the Basement. On the series movies front there’s King Lear, Theater of War and feature doc The Day After Peace. Highlights of the SVOD slate, meanwhile, include the six-part Monty Python: Almost the Truth (The Lawyer’s Cut). WE tv, meanwhile, is showcasing The Locator, Raising Sextuplets, My Fair Wedding, Spa Seekers and other lifestyle fare.
 
“Sundance Channel is a valuable addition to mioTV’s suite of channels and will most certainly cause a buzz among lovers of independent films and the Sundance brand’s unique programming,” said Tim Carmichael, the VP of mioTV at SingTel. “We are very pleased and excited about being the first platform to carry this well-respected channel in Asia.”
 
He said of WE tv, meanwhile, “mio TV aims to plug the gaps in the pay-TV market with compelling content, and this channel is a prime example of us doing just that. With so many lifestyle channels available, WE tv really stands out because it talks directly to women and addresses the issues that matter most to them”.
 
The subscription rate for each of the linear channels is S$12.84/month. They are also available as part of the SuperSaver English Pack. The Sundance on-demand channel is available at S$10.70/month and the WE tv on-demand channel is S$8.56/month.
