NEW YORK: The Sundance Channel is to air Joe Berlinger’s documentary Crude, about one of the most controversial environmental lawsuits in the world, on September 22.

Crude, Berlinger’s fifth feature-length documentary, was named one of the “Top Five Documentaries of the Year” by the National Board of Review and has won 22 human rights, environmental and film festival awards.

The doc presents the $27 billion lawsuit involving more than 30,000 indigenous Ecuadorians who claim that Chevron-Texaco polluted the region, poisoned their resources and created a “death zone.”

"Sundance Channel has always been a home for independent voices in the tradition of our founder Robert Redford,” said Sarah Barnett, the executive VP and general manager of Sundance Channel. “We remain committed to giving audiences the opportunity to see works of singular vision like Crude, a remarkable and compelling piece of filmmaking."

Berlinger’s other films include Brother’s Keeper, Paradise Lost, Paradise Lost 2: Revelations and Metallica: Some Kind of Monster. He is a two-time Emmy- and Peabody Award-winner.
