ATLANTA/BURBANK: Starz Media Worldwide Distribution has expanded its deal with Moviecity and Fox Latin American Channels to include originals such as the upcoming Magic City, as well as movie titles.

Moviecity and Fox Latin American Channels signed a multi-year deal with Starz Media Worldwide Distribution that sees the upcoming original series Magic City and future Starz originals headed to the service. Also included are a range of feature films distributed by Starz Media Worldwide Distribution, which houses movies from Anchor Bay Films and other independent studios. This new agreement expands on the current licensing pact for Spartacus. Moviecity has already aired Spartacus: Blood and Sand and Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and is now airing the final episodes of Camelot.

The Starz originals and movies will be distributed exclusively in Latin American countries served by the Moviecity pay-TV package, including Brazil, as well as the online service Moviecity Play. Fox Latin American Channels will premiere the content in an exclusive basic cable window in the same markets, as well as on the basic subscription on-demand service FoxHits.

“Success with Spartacus showed us the potential for future Starz originals programming,” said Edgar Spielmann, the CEO and president of Moviecity. We are excited about their vision for future high-quality projects and especially, the upcoming Magic City. We see Starz as one of the great premium programming providers in the world and will certainly be a powerhouse for series production in the future. Moviecity looks to expand upon that success into Latin America—we saw this opportunity and we worked to make it happen.”

“We are very excited with this new, expanded programming licensing pact, as it allows us to keep providing high-quality content to our unique basic cable channels, added Gonzalo Fiure, the senior VP of strategic content, and Patricia Daujotas, the senior VP of programming and acquisitions at Fox Latin American Channels. Through this agreement we reinforce our commitment with viewers in Latin America, bringing the best series worldwide that translates into the great performance of our channels.”

“With the exceptional talent and foresight of our creative and production team at Starz, we have established ourselves as a major supplier of high quality, unique and appealing television content for global audiences,” commented Gene George, the executive VP of worldwide distribution at Starz Media. “We are very pleased to expand our business in Latin America and Brazil and look forward to bringing to market future series and movies in partnership with Moviecity and Fox Latin American Channels.”
