SPT’s Hit the Zero Renewed by Telecinco

LONDON: Telecinco in Spain has commissioned a second season of the game show Toma Cero (Hit the Zero) from Sony Pictures Television (SPT).

SPT’s recently formed Toro Producciones will produce a further 60 episodes of the daily game show, which will feature a refreshed set. Slated for a November premiere, Hit the Zero pits two contestants against each other, both are granted a bank balance and assisted by three friends or family members. The goal is for each contestant to hold on to more of their bank balance than their opponent by answering a series of general knowledge questions.

The first season on Telecinco increased its viewership 37 percent from week one to week seven, regularly drawing in more than one million viewers.

Ed Louwerse, the managing director of 2waytraffic International, an SPT company, said: “The performance of Toma Cero in Spain underscores viewer appetite for game shows that appeal to the whole family and is a ringing endorsement of Toro Producciones’ innovation—right out of the gate. With SPT’s proven ability to exploit formats internationally, we believe that Hit the Zero has the potential to be a big hit outside of Spain as well.”
