SPTI Launches New Latin American Mobile Content Portals

CULVER CITY, June 27: Sony
Pictures Television International (SPTI) has launched three pan-Latin American
mobile content portals, distributing video clips, wallpapers, ringtones and
mobile games inspired by its Animax, Sony Entertainment Television (SET) and
AXN networks.

The content is distributed
across 34 carriers, reaching 16 countries and some 300 million mobile customers
across the region.

The first property
distributed across SPTI’s new mobile network was Nada que ver (Nothing to Watch), SET’s hit late-night entertainment series. SET
has since gone mobile with Brazil’s Next Top Model, while AXN launched a collection of Spider-Man mobile content, followed by the mobile rollout of Afterworld, SPTI’s original multiplatform futuristic animated
series. Animax launched a slate of mobile content that skews toward
youth-oriented animation-themed material, and has grown to become the number
one mobile brand for SPTI in the region in terms of download quantity and
frequency.

“The success of these
mobile initiatives in Latin America is a snapshot of the future of
cross-platform entertainment distribution around the world,” said Marie
Jacobson, the executive VP of programming and production for international
networks at SPTI. “Based on some successful early tests, we expanded this model
across three of our most popular network brands in order to solidify SPTI’s
leadership in digital and mobile platform distribution, create increased brand
visibility for our prime-time programming, develop new one-to-one relationships
with our viewers, establish new revenue streams, and tap into a pool of viewer
feedback that helps each of our networks make better programming decisions.”

content initiatives have achieved early success due to the fact that we can
draw on Sony’s global resources, even as we make programming decisions on an
extremely granular, localized basis,” added Miguel Rios, the executive director
of marketing for SPTI in Latin America. “Programming specifically for each
region means that SPTI offers mobile consumers the most relevant and timely
mobile content possible.”
