Spike Lee to Receive PromaxBDA Lifetime Achievement Award

LOS ANGELES: Spike Lee is set to receive PromaxBDA’s Lifetime Achievement Award for creativity at the entertainment association’s 2011 annual conference, which takes place June 28 to 30 in New York.

Lee has been active in the entertainment industry as a writer, director, producer and actor, with his debut film She’s Gotta Have It earning him the Prix de Jeunesse Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1986. Lee’s Do the Right Thing brought him an Academy Award nomination for best original screenplay, while his drama Malcolm X garnered two Oscar nominations.

Lee’s 4 Little Girls HBO documentary also received Emmy and Oscar nominations and he received an Emmy Award for his profile of Georgetown University’s John Thompson for HBO/Real Sports. In 2006, Lee’s HBO documentary When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in 3 Acts, won three Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award.
