Spain’s Prisa Releases Half-Year Results

MADRID, July 24: Spanish
media group Prisa, whose assets include Sogecable in Spain and Media Capital in
Portugal, reported that revenues for the first half of the year were up 8.8
percent to 2.01 billion euros, and profit was up 18.6 percent to 86.93 million
euros.

The bulk of Prisa’s
revenues derive from Spain—82 percent. Of the international revenues,
more than half were from Portugal, where Prisa owns 94 percent of Media
Capital, the parent company of TVI.

In Spain, Sogecable
crossed the 1 billion euros revenue mark, reflecting a 5.9-percent increase.
The pay-TV platform Digital+ contributed 822.71 million euros, 2.6-percent
higher than last year. The platform’s subscriber revenues were flat at 593.1
million euros, while ad revenues fell 1.1 percent to 14.91 million euros.
Cuatro, meanwhile, offset that fall, with ad gains driving a 24-percent revenue
increase to 153.74 million euros.

In Portugal, meanwhile,
Media Capital saw its revenues rise 23.4 percent to 153.74 million euros,
driven by a 12.7-percent increase in advertising to 93.2 million euros
