Smoking Bloomberg Stage Musical Set for Animated Production

NEW YORK: New Core Productions and Silver Lining Film Group are adapting the award-winning stage musical Smoking Bloomberg, about a Korean dry cleaner who seeks revenge on New York mayor Michael Bloomberg when his smoking ban ruins her business, into an animated version.

David Wollos of the ThinkTank Emporium will serve as the project representative for media and licensing opportunities. David Hamby (Gahan Wilson’s Diner) created the initial animation demo.

The production team is currently exploring ways to present this project on multiple media platforms, according to David Cornue of New Core Productions. “During the New York stage production, we found Smoking Bloomberg had mass appeal among key audience demographics, so we’re excited to give the project a wider reach beyond the four walls of a theater.”

Brooklyn-based production company Silver Lining Film Group came on board to transition the project from stage to screen. “Smoking Bloomberg was a natural fit for our company,” said Chandra Silver, the co-founder of Silver Lining Film Group. "We look for edgy material that isn’t afraid to push boundaries, and were thrilled to connect the project with animator David Hamby."

ThinkTank Emporium will be seeking strategic co-production partners for this effort both in North America and Europe. “Behind the crass humor is a strong and positive universal message about freedom that audiences will connect to worldwide,” said Wollos.
