Singapore Takes Center Stage at MIPTV

PARIS: Singapore has been selected as the "Country of Focus" for this year’s MIPTV, with the country’s Acting Minister for Communications, Information and the Arts (MICA), Lui Tuck Yew as the guest of honor.

The Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) and International Enterprise Singapore be leading the largest-ever Singaporean delegation to the market. There will be a half-day conference on April 12 highlighting Singapore’s media landscape and its international co-production strategy, which has resulted in some 180 factual Asian-themed shows that aired in 70 countries around the world. Also a focus will be Singapore’s abilities in stereoscopic 3-D, with detailed case studies in a half-day conference on 3-D on April 14. The 3-D drive is part of the Singapore Media Fusion Plan (SMFP), launched last year to develop Singapore as a trusted global capital for "New Asia Media."

Dr. Christopher Chia, CEO of the MDA, noted: “Singapore is transforming into a creative economy bubbling with game-changing ideas and innovations, where global talents and businesses thrive. We are very honored to be this year’s’ Country of Focus,’ and look forward to the sharing of best practices and forging new partnerships with our international counterparts at this premier broadcasting market."

Laurine Garaude, the television division director at Reed MIDEM, added: “Singapore’s media sector is one of the most dynamic and fast-growing in the world, supported by a pro-active and energetic government strategy. We are very pleased to welcome Singapore as ‘Country of Focus’ at MIPTV 2010 and honored that Mr. Lui Tuck Yew, Singapore’s Acting Minister of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA) has agreed to be with us in Cannes.”
