Shaftesbury Clinches U.S., U.K. Deals on Booky Franchise

TORONTO: Shaftesbury Sales Company has licensed its Booky Movie Trilogy to Starz in the U.S. and Sky Movies in the U.K.

Starz scored all three movies in the trilogy: Booky Makes Her Mark, Booky and the Secret Santa and Booky’s Crush. Sky Movies, which had previously acquired Booky Makes Her Mark, has now taken Booky and the Secret Santa and Booky’s Crush. Shaftesbury also sold the home-video rights to Booky and the Secret Santa to Phase 4 in North America and the U.K.

Starring Megan Follows, the Booky Trilogy is set in Toronto during the 1930s, based on the children’s books by Bernice Thurman Hunter. “We are delighted to bring this heartwarming and endearing classic series to American and British audiences and have found the perfect home at Starz and Sky Movies,” said Shane Kinnear, the VP of sales, marketing and digital media at Shaftesbury Films.

The Booky Movie Trilogy is produced by Platt Productions and Shaftesbury Films in association with CBC Television.
