SAT.1 to Host Charity Haitian Soccer Match

MUNICH: The Haitian national soccer team is to play in a charity match against a team of former German soccer stars and celebrities that will be aired live on SAT.1 in Germany.

The match will be held in the Bavarian city of Augsburg on March 7, and will air on SAT.1’s ran. The event will mark the Haitian team’s first international appearance since the devastating earthquake hit Haiti. SAT.1 is part of the ProSiebenSat.1 broadcasting group.

Andreas Bartl, a member of ProSiebenSat.1’s executive board and managing director of SAT.1, said: “With this charity match, we would like to support the Haiti soccer federation to re-establish a new soccer infrastructure. By using the power of soccer, we wish to send new hope to the people of Haiti. All of the proceeds of the event will go towards Haiti.”

Yves-Jean Bart, the president of Haiti Soccer Federation, commented: “Germany has always been a great friend of our nation. The national soccer federation of Haiti mourns the death of more than 30 employees. Many of our players have lost their homes and have been sleeping out in the open. We would like to express our sincere thanks to German broadcaster SAT.1 and look forward to participating in this charity match.”
