Royal Television Society Unveils Award Winners

LONDON: The Royal Television Society (RTS) has announced the winners for the Programme Awards, which celebrate all genres of programming.

BBC Productions’ The Thick of It won for best scripted comedy, beating out Miranda and The Inbetweeners. Newswipe with Charlie Brooker for Zeppotron won in the entertainment category against Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor.

The winner in the daytime/early peak segment was Come Dine with Me from ITV Studios, taking the win over Coach Trip and The Hairy Bikers. The documentary category was won by Wounded from BBC Productions, over nominees The Force and True Stories: Afghan Star. The history winner was Garrow’s Law from Twenty Twenty Television, beating out 1066 and Iran and the West. Heston’s Feasts: Heston’s Victorian Feast from Optomen won for features and lifestyle series. The other nominees were Don’t Tell the Bride and The Sex Education Show vs Pornography.

Roy from JAM Media won as best children’s drama, with MI High and The Sarah Jane Adventures as the runner-ups. Big and Small: Blame it on the Drain from Kindle won for best children’s program, over Bookaboo and Horrible Histories.

The drama series The Street from ITV Studios beat out Cast Offs and Misfits. The award for best drama serial went to Unforgiven from Red Production Company, over Occupation and Red Riding. In the continuing drama or soap arena, BBC Productions’ EastEnders won against Casualty and The Bill.
