Revenue-Sharing Deal Between Hearst-Argyle Television and Google’s YouTube

NEW YORK, June 4:
Hearst-Argyle Television, one of the largest operators of TV and radio stations
in the U.S., has entered into a revenue-sharing deal with Google’s YouTube to
distribute and monetize some of its television content.

A number of Hearst-Argyle
television stations including those in Boston, Manchester, N.H., Sacramento,
CA, Pittsburgh and Baltimore will start posting local video content to
dedicated YouTube channels.

The
deal marks the first time TV stations will get paid when people view their
content on the video-sharing site. Hearst-Argyle will receive an undisclosed
portion of the revenue generated from advertising sold against the video clips
it provides to YouTube.

Hearst-Argyle
will offer news, weather and entertainment videos along with original local
television programming. YouTube will also serve as a platform to support
Hearst-Argyle's new digital video offerings including high school football,
basketball and local amateur entertainment.

“This
innovative deal with Google and YouTube fits perfectly within our overall
digital strategy of distributing our content on all three screens – the TV, the
PC and the mobile phone,” Terry Mackin, the executive VP of Hearst-Argyle, said
in a statement.
