Reveille Enters Animation Sector

LOS ANGELES: Reveille has signed a first-look deal with Mechem Media, founded by former Hanna-Barbera executives and family members, to create new animated series for TV and the Internet.

Reveille will work with Mechem to create, develop and produce new family-oriented animated series. The two will be pitching their first project together in the coming weeks, an animated comedy called The Gloomers, about the unluckiest family in the world.

Mecham continues the tradition of the Hanna-Barbera brand—exemplified by hits like The Flintstones, Scooby-Doo, Where are You!, The Jetsons, Tom and Jerry and The Smurfs—working in 2D animation to create content for a new generation. Reveille will bring to the table its digital expertise and strong connections to explore online and advertiser-supported programming in addition to licensing deals.

Carolyn G. Bernstein, the executive VP of scripted programs at Reveille, said, “Hanna-Barbera cartoons are some of the most enduring television series ever created with characters that continue to live as pop culture icons. Mechem Media is extending Hanna-Barbera’s signature 2D animation style and tone to new stories and new characters, and we’re thrilled to help bring these ideas to life on TV and the web.”

“We are very pleased to partner with Reveille,” added Mechem Media’s CEO, Charles S. Mechem, Jr., “Their strength and reputation are unparalleled. We strongly share their views that there is a significant market—and a real need—for fun, quality animation in the style pioneered by my dear friends and colleagues Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera.”
