Report: BBC, Sky Dominate British Mobile Content Market

SAN FRANCISCO/LONDON, October 25: BBC One and Sky Sports are
the most-watched mobile TV channels in the U.K., according to the research firm
Telephia, with 33 percent of all mobile TV/video viewers having watched BBC
One, followed by 29 percent for Sky Sports.

Discovery Channel was viewed by 24 percent of mobile
TV/video viewers, with BBC Two, Three and Four and ITV 1 all watched by 22
percent of mobile content users. Cartoon Network and ITV 2 were each watched by
21 percent.

“The big broadcasting brands in the U.K. have extended their
footprint to reach the mobile population, and the strategy is clearly working,”
said Reza Chady, the MD for Europe at Telephia. “Consumers are tapping into
three screens—television, PC and mobile phone—for their news and
entertainment. Broadcasters must develop an integrated strategy across the
three screens to reach, maintain and expand their audience.”

The report also notes that just 3 percent of U.K. mobile
subscribers watch mobile TV or video content, with 70 percent of the audience
being male.
