Reed MIDEM Releases Final MIPCOM Numbers

PARIS, October 23: At the
close of MIPCOM on October 17, a total of 13,588 individuals had attended the
market, a 1.6-percent increase on 2007 figures, marking the event’s
highest-ever attendance.

A total of 4,519 companies
from 103 countries registered, of which 1,779 were exhibitors. The number of
international buyers grew by 7.2 percent to 4,573 this year.

The growth was driven by
increased participation from the Middle East, Turkey, Russia, India, China and
Ukraine. Russian attendance was up 39.6 percent (377 participants); the Ukraine
was up 30.5 percent (111); the Middle East 34.7 percent (419); and China 19.5
percent (141). In addition, Africa was up 18.5 percent (135), Spain was up 19.6
percent (651) and Germany 10 percent (825).

“With the growth of the
METRIC countries (Middle East, Turkey, Russia, India and China), MIPCOM is now
more than ever the market for professionals who want to negotiate business with
new territories and develop content for all platforms,” said Paul Johnson, the director of television at Reed MIDEM. “That’s why this year we
put several tools in place to help with that, such as our MIP Accelerators
matchmaking events. We will be enlarging them at MIPTV 2009.”
