Reed MIDEM Plans New Event for Asia in 2008

PARIS, April 18: Almost a
decade since the last editions of MIP Asia and MIDEM Asia, Reed MIDEM announced
today that it is planning a new event in the region: AMAZIA, a pan-Asia Pacific
exhibition and conference devoted to the creation and distribution of
international entertainment content across all delivery platforms.

The event is set to take
place in November 2008 in Hong Kong, it was announced today by Paul Zilk, Reed
MIDEM’s CEO. Zilk noted that the time seemed right to return to the region,
following two years of research and “encouragement from clients,” he said.
“Things have changed,” Zilk said. “The Asian economy, the entertainment
economy, is much more robust and it’s growing. We believe the universe will be
bigger than it was back then at MIP Asia or MIDEM Asia.”

The event is targeting
attendees from TV and film production and distribution companies, broadcast
outlets, record companies, music publishers and distributors, live music specialists,
mobile music services, online game platforms, as well as mobile operators,
digital content providers, technology enablers, licensing and merchandising
companies, advertising agencies and consumer brands. “It’s a truly fully
converged concept, which is new for us, and I believe new for the world,” Zilk
said.

Zilk explained that the
move for the organization is logical, giving its long history of organizing
music, TV and technology focused events. Zilk noted that the time was right for
Reed MIDEM to “leverage our experience and relationships in launching a new
event like this focused on the Asia Pacific. There’s so much amazing innovation
in Asia, on the content side and in technology. This is a unique opportunity to
serve the needs of people within Asia.”

According to Zilk, the
market’s attendance is expected to be 70 percent from the region/30 percent
from the rest of the world, in the first year. In addition to exhibition space,
the event, expected to run over the course of three days, will feature
conferences and keynote speakers, industry workshops, product screening
sessions, innovation zones showcasing new talent and the latest in
content-centric technology, as well as networking opportunities.

Reed MIDEM is looking to
further capitalize on the region, where entertainment and media markets are
expected to be worth $425 billion in 2010, compared to $330 billion this year.
The region currently accounts for 50 percent of global 3G subscribers and by
2010, Asia will represent more than 50 percent of the broadband Internet
market.
