Raft of Films Available from Starz

BURBANK: Starz Media is showcasing a lineup of nine features from Overture Films and Anchor Bay Entertainment that will make their U.S. debut at NATPE.

The slate is led by the crime dramas Righteous Kill, starring Oscar-winners Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, and Traitor, with Don Cheadle and Guy Pearce. Righteous Kill involves highly decorated detectives David Fisk and Thomas Cowan, who should be ready for retirement after 30 years in the pressure cooker environment of the NYPD, but are called in to investigate the murder of a notorious pimp. In Traitor, a straight-laced FBI agent heads up an investigation into a dangerous international conspiracy, where all the clues seem to lead back to a former U.S. Special Operations officer.

The crime comedy Mad Money, featuring Oscar-winner Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah and Katie Holmes, gets its second release. The feature follows a group of women who devise and successfully carry out a plan to smuggle soon-to-be-destroyed currency out of the Federal Reserve Bank.  In The Visitor, a 62-year-old professor who returns from a conference to find real-estate scam victims Tarek, a Syrian man, and his Senegalese girlfriend living in his apartment. Rounding out Starz Media’s NATPE slate are Sleepwalking and Henry Poole Is Here, as well as Anchor Bay Entertainment originals Surfer, Dude, Sex and Death 101 and The Grand.

"Starz Media has been building relationships with domestic broadcasters and cable companies over the past year, and we think our slate of theatrical features from Overture Films and Anchor Bay Entertainment will be enticing for buyers," said Gene George, the executive VP of worldwide distribution for Starz Media. "It’s really rare for a company outside the major studio system to have a slate of this quality and this magnitude, particularly in its first year."
