Princess Protection Program Delivers for Disney

BURBANK: The Disney Channel original movie Princess Protection Program, starring Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato, premiered as TV’s number one entertainment telecast of 2009 for kids 6 to 11 and tweens 9 to 14.

The broadcast drew in 3.1 million kids 6 to 11, and 3.2 million in the 9-to-14 set. Princess Protection Program was cable’s number one scripted telecast in total viewers, with 8.5 million. This makes it Disney Channel’s third most successful original movie of all time in total viewers, behind Camp Rock and High School Musical 2.

The performance of Princess Protection Program on June 26 ranked as Disney Channel’s second most watched day in the channel’s history in total viewers, kids 6 to 11 and tweens 9 to 14. For the time slot, Disney was the most watched network, nearly doubling runner-up NBC in total viewers.

Capitalizing on the strong lead-off from Princess Protection Program, an all-new Wizards of Waverly Place ranked a dominant number one in its time slot on June 26, placing second among all TV telecasts for the day in kids 6 to 11 and tweens 9 to 14.
