PorchLight Debuts Curriculum-Based E-Commerce Website

LOS ANGELES, September 4:
PorchLightLEARNING.com, a new enterprise launched by PorchLight Entertainment,
will focus on bringing media-based educational content to schools, libraries
and parents worldwide.

Its first offering, Animalia:
The Land Where Literacy Lives
,
includes a 10-episode DVD collection, for purchase by schools, libraries and
teachers. The collection includes specific classroom and home-based curriculum
activities tied to the series, but also designed to reinforce Standards for
the English Language Arts
for
elementary school teachers. Other educational, curriculum-based media packages
based on PorchLight properties will be added to the line, including Jay Jay
the Jet Plane
and Adventures
from the Book of Virtues
.

“We’re excited to be entering
the educational and library markets with a ground-breaking educational media
package based on the PBS television series Animalia,” said Bruce D. Johnson, the president and CEO of
PorchLight. “The series itself is based on one of the most beloved children’s
books of all time, Animalia by
Graeme Base, which is filled with clever alliterations and whimsical character
art. Nearly every school and public library in the country owns Animalia and teachers and parents have been using it for
years to teach the alphabet to children. Now we are offering a companion
animated series that entertains as it supports the teaching of language and
literacy skills.”

Charles Flood, the
managing director of PorchLightLEARNING.com, added, “What makes this series so
exciting as an educational product is that the series provides a creative way
to introduce each of the Standards for the English Language Arts in the most entertaining way imaginable and it’s
all tied to the ‘Core,’ a visual metaphor in the series that actually contains
language arts skills.”
