Parthenon Offers Up Diverse Slate for MIPCOM and MIPCOM Junior

LONDON, September 25: Parthenon Entertainment is unveiling
more than 50 hours of new programming at MIPCOM and MIPCOM Junior, much of
which is made in high definition.

The company’s factual slate includes a variety of genres,
such as science, wildlife, history and people. Programming has been supplied by
Parthenon’s own production division and by leading independent companies,
including the U.K.’s Darlow Smithson, Green Bay and Little Entertainment Group;
BASE Productions from the U.S. and Aquavision and Red Pepper from South Africa.

Headlining the factual offerings is the 13×1-hour Sports
Science
and the 5×1-hour Fight
Science
. Both are produced by
Washington-based BASE Productions and combine high-definition footage with CGI
motion-capture techniques.

In wildlife fare, Parthenon is offering two new one-hour HD
specials, Cheetah: Blood Brothers and Wolverine
X
, both of which have been acquired by
Animal Planet US for its Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom strand. Other wildlife
titles include Hippo Hell, Killer Jellyfish, Dive to Tiger Central and Striker.

Highlighting Parthenon’s history slate is the Darlow
Smithson-produced Ancient Megastructures,
which looks at The Colosseum in Rome, The Great Pyramis of Giza and the
Chartres Cathedral in France. Other history programs include Art of
the Cross
and Art of War.

Parthenon Kids’ MIPCOM Junior offerings include two seasons
of the live-action series Roman Mysteries,
based on the best-selling books by Caroline Lawrence. The series is a
co-production between the BBC and U.K. production company The Little
Entertainment Group. It is shot entirely on location, the first season in
Tunisia and Malta and the second in Bulgaria and Malta. Both seasons are
available internationally for the first time and rights are available
worldwide, excluding the U.K. and Australia. Other children’s properties for
the market include the format Ridestar!, the second season of the animated series Hana’s Helpline, Ed and Eppa in the Wild and Kat and C.a.T., about a little girl and her favorite toy friends.

Peter Pas, the
commercial director of Parthenon Entertainment, said: “Parthenon is well known
as a leading producer and distributor in the factual area and now with the
launch of Parthenon Kids we are poised to make our mark in children’s
programming too. It’s particularly exciting to be representing Roman
Mysteries
, such a high profile
BBC children’s show that is both entertaining and beautifully made. It sits
perfectly alongside the rest of our catalogue.”
