Japan’s Nippon TV is set to head to this year’s MIPCOM with a scripted format entitled The Greatest Teacher, among other new projects.

The format, from the creators of Mr. Hiiragi’s Homeroom, follows the story of a teacher who is pushed off the school balcony after graduation. When she suddenly finds herself back in her homeroom class on the first day of school, she attempts to use the chance to unveil the truth about who pushed her.

The slate also includes two new unscripted formats, Suspects on the Set and 5 Friends, 5 Favours! The former is a mystery murder game show with a mix of scripted crime drama elements, while the latter is a studio game show where competitors battle it out to win for their celebrity friends.

Rounding out the slate is the new anime title The Apothecary Diaries, following a former pharmacist who is obsessed with poisons and medicines. Upon becoming a servant, she begins to investigate why the emperor’s children are short-lived.

“Starting last year, Nippon TV has strengthened its production and distribution capabilities, aiming for further success in the international market,” said Mikiko Nishiyama, executive VP of global business at Nippon TV. “We are actively pursuing partnerships to produce original programs, aiming for series adaptations in international markets, whether scripted or unscripted. To achieve these goals, those programs will first be produced and broadcast in Japan as a pilot version for international markets.

“As we celebrate our 70th anniversary this year, Nippon TV is operating at full throttle as we head into MIPCOM with these four new titles.”
