NGCI in Malaysian HD Programming Alliance

KUALA LUMPUR, October 2: National Geographic Channels
International (NGCI) has entered into a partnership agreement with the National
Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (FINAS) to commission two one-hour
original HD documentaries showcasing Malaysia and encouraging the nation’s
filmmaking talent.

Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim, the Minister
of Arts, Culture and Heritage for Malaysia, commented, “This partnership
between NGCI and FINAS will enable Malaysia to tap into world-class documentary
filmmaking know-how. At the same time, we hope this initiative will open up new
opportunities as we encourage and propel Malaysian television production
companies to compete globally.”

NGCI has issued a call-for-entries to all Malaysian-based
production companies. The finished programs will be aired globally on National
Geographic Channel’s network in 164 countries. “The successful grantees will be
guided by NGCI’s senior producers to ensure a consistently high-quality
production,” said Bryan Smith, the executive VP of production at NGCI. “The
winning producers can also expect future opportunities with National Geographic
Channel.”

Successful pitches will receive up to $200,000 to produce
their one-hour special.
