NGCI Commissions Engineering Series

WASHINGTON D.C., May 13:
National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) has commissioned a new
four-part series from Darlow Smithson Productions, Engineering Connections.

The series, hosted by
British presenter and author Richard Hammond, will explore the historical
innovations behind some of the world’s most advanced engineering projects: the
Taipei 101 Tower, Airbus A380, Troll A Gas Platform and Hawaii’s WM Keck
Observatory. The series will air in the U.S. on National Geographic Channel
later this month, and will roll out internationally in September.

“NGCI is thrilled to
partner with Darlow Smithson on Engineering Connections,” said Sydney Suissa, the executive VP of content
for NGCI. “Richard Hammond brings a level of enthusiasm and curiosity that
connects with audiences, making him an integral part of the series. Engineering
Connections
is a unique way of
seeing how seemingly unrelated innovations have laid the groundwork for
grand-scale engineering achievements.”

"This is a smart new
take on the evolution of some of the world’s most amazing structures,” said Tom
Brisley, the executive producer for Darlow Smithson Productions. “Richard
Hammond is the perfect choice to take us on these journeys, some of which go
back thousands of years, to reveal fascinating links and connections without
which our modern structures would never exist today."
