New Sales for Pair of Sony Formats

CANNES: Married…with Children and The King of Queens are both getting new international treatments following sales made by Sony Pictures Television (SPT).

SPT licensed the scripted format Married…with Children to Keshet in Israel, with 50 episodes to air on Channel 2. Local versions have also been produced in Argentina, Armenia, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Hungary, Turkey, Russia and Spain. In Bulgaria, SPT scored its first scripted format deal in the territory, with Viasat licensing Married…with Children. Viasat is set to produce 120 local episodes for Nova, with SPT providing consultancy.

CTC of Russia is to produce 40 local episodes of The King of Queens. The show will launch in December, marking SPT’s first local-language version of the format.

Jeff Lerner, the senior VP of international scripted development and production at SPT, said: “The significant growth in SPT’s scripted formats business demonstrates how, with the right expertise, the best story telling translates into any culture or language. Through SPT’s production network around the globe, there is a wealth of opportunity to explore as we bring proven scripted hits to new audiences.”
